Dinner and a cash bar proved irresistible to our motley crew of bike racers, fueling an evening of off-season revelry. With spouse brownie points on offer for a classy evening mostly devoid of lycra, the Team turned up to socialize with new teammates, to support the LBC, to pass the torch of leadership, and to honor a few standout individuals.
The BikeClicks.com / Team Louisville members that were recognized for their achievements and contributions to the LBC's racing program, as presented by Mark Luking:
Steve Gaylor, Male Racer of the Year--Steve started his racing career 27 years ago (the same year the Motorola introduced the mobile telephone). Steve returned to racing after three years off and had 6 top 10 finishes. He has served as our team coach providing training schedules and mentoring many of our new racers. Steve is well respected by the members of our team for his great personality, years of experience, and ability to beat nearly everyone to the top of the hills!
Suzanne Webster, Female Racer of the Year--Susan transitioned from running marathons to bike racing in 2008. This past season she competed in 21 road races and 6 cyclocross races and finished 4th overall in her category in the Spring Training Series and won a Bronze medal in the KY State CX championships. She has helped build one of the most active women's racing squads in our team's history, and has worked to encourage other women to become involved in the sport thru the Skirts Rides and Racer Chicks Clinics. She also helps with team sponsorships including writing regular newsletters about team activities for our sponsors.
James Freeman, Rookie Racer of the Year. James is a school teacher from southern Indiana who joined our team in 2008 and has quickly move up the ranks to become a Category 3 racer. This past season he competed in the Spring Training Series winning the Iroquois Circuit Race and finishing second in the overall Spring Training Series for his category. He also raced at the Major Taylor Velodrome in Indy, winning a Cat1/2/3 competition and has qualified to compete in this year National Track Championship races.
Logan McCulloch, racing program's Volunteer of the Year. Logan has been instrumental in helping manage our racing team. He has helped oversee the evaluation and supervision of our new racers, worked to find team sponsors including helping with writing our sponsorship proposal, and served on our leadership committee for several years. His professional experience and level-headed advise over the past seasons has been a huge benefit to our team.
